Hughes Race Car

January 19th, 2014 - The 2nd Annual Winter Extreme returned to life on Friday night with a $3,000-to-win event at Tucson International Raceway (Tucson, Arizona). Fifty-six Super Late Models were on hand for the program, and heat race action found Jason finishing 3rd in his heat race in his #12 Rowland Motorsports/Bloomquist/Pro Power Racing Engine entry to lock into the 17th starting spot for the 30 lap feature. Hughes raced around mid-pack throughout the feature before crossing the finish line in the 13th position.

Another day and another show awaited Jason on Saturday as a $5,000-to-win program was held for the NDRL Super Late Models. With 56 entries in the pit area Jason failed to qualify for the feature via heat race action, but a 2nd place finish in his b-main locked him into the 22nd starting spot for the 40 lap finale. In the main event Hughes enjoyed a great run as he advanced twelve spots on his way to a 10th place finish.

On Sunday the six race series came to a close with a $10,000-to-win event. With 52 entries in the pits passing would be difficult with daytime conditions in effect, and Jason fell just short of qualifying for the feature as his night drew to an early close.

1January 15th, 2014 - Jason Hughes opened his 2014 season in his #12 Rowland Motorsports/Bloomquist/Pro Power Racing Engine Super Late Model on Saturday night at Tucson International Raceway (Tucson, Arizona) during the 2nd Annual Winter Extreme.

A talented field of 57 Super Late Models entered the $3,000-to-win event at the 3/8 mile oval, and via time trials Hughes earned the 3rd starting spot for his heat race. In the heat he battled the handle as he slid backwards to a 5th place finish, which relegated him to a b-main. In the b-main Hughes was only able to manage a 4th place finish. As a result his night came to an early end.

Sunday afternoon found 54 entries returning to do battle for a $5,000 top prize, and the outing started on a strong note for Hughes, who recorded the fastest time in his group in qualifications. However, with the top four starters being inverted for heat race action Jason was forced to start 4th on a track that was not conducive to passing. After failing to transfer to the feature from heat race action Hughes was only able to manage a 3rd place finish in his b-main, which left him one spot short of transferring to the feature as his night ended again.

Action resumed on Wednesday night with a $3,000-to-win event that drew a field of 49 entries to the 3/8 mile oval. Via time trials Hughes earned the 2nd starting spot in his heat race and went on to finish 3rd to lock into the 17th starting spot for the 30 lap finale. On a lightning fast track Jason went on to record a 17th place finish.
