Hughes Race Car

1November 16th, 2013 - After a few weeks away from the track Jason Hughes entered the opening night of a triple header in the 7th Annual Lecolift Texas Winter Nationals at the state-of-the-art, Royal Purple Raceway (Baytown, Texas) on Thursday night.

A stout field of 64 entries took to the 3/8 mile oval, and in his heat race Jason starting 8th before advancing to a 6th place finish, which left him short of locking into the feature. As a result he was relegated to a b-main, where he charged from the 7th starting spot to finish 2nd which locked him into the 19th starting spot for the finale. Early in the $2,000-to-win feature he advanced a few spots before a lap 10 tangle with another competitor ended his night in the 25th position.

Friday night's program posted a $3,000 winner's check as Hughes hoped for better luck. However, the night proved to be a struggle as he again found himself having to race into the finale via a b-main. In the feature he started 20th before retiring late in the race to a 23rd place finish.

The weekend drew to close on Saturday evening with a $4,000-to-win affair. While the payout looked bigger and brighter Hughes luck would not. Via preliminary action he earned the 16th starting spot for the 40 lap feature, but on the first lap of the finale he was collected in a melee that ended his night and weekend in the 27th position.
